ANNOUNCING DELPHI 5

Borland Corporation announced (07/19/99) a major new version of its award-winning rapid application development tool for Windows.

Designed to help individual and corporate developers rapidly deliver Windows applications, as well as extend those applications to the Internet, Delphi 5 radically simplifies the integration of Windows and browser clients, web servers, middleware and back-end database systems.

   Pricing
Customers may place orders immediately on the Web at www.borland.com and later in the quarter with major software distribution channels.
Delphi 5 is expected to hit the channel next month in three editions:

  • Enterprise edition will ship for $2,499 for new users;
  • Professional will be priced at $799;
  • Standard will cost $99.95.

    Current owners of any Borland Client/Server or Enterprise product can purchase Delphi 5 Enterprise for an ESP of $1,699. Current owners of any Borland Professional product can purchase Delphi 5 Enterprise for an ESP of $2,199. Current owners of other Borland development tools products can purchase Delphi 5 Professional for an ESP of $249.95. Current owners of competing products, like Visual Basic or PowerBuilder, can purchase Delphi 5 Professional for an ESP of $299.95.

       Features
    Key features of the Delphi 5 Enterprise edition include support for the standard markup languages used for building Internet applications, XML and HTML 4. For a complete overview of features in the different versions of Delphi 5 see the detailed matrix.

       Inprise + Borland
    Most recently, the Borland.com division, which focuses on development tools, and the Inprise division, which focuses on enterprise and middleware software for businesses, were folded back into one.
