The second Nitty Gritty Delphi book from the author. Nitty Gritty Delphi 6 helps you discover Object Pascal, the basis for Borland's Delphi 6 development environment, and get to grips with it quickly. The book leads you right to the core of Delphi. Frank Eler tells you about the most important classes and components. The book should be interested for both beginner Delphi developers as well as for those who want to extend their knowledge in Delphi. Nitty Gritty Delphi 6 describes the Professional edition of Delphi 6.

Divided into three parts, this book provides everything you need to know to start programming in Delphi 6, covered in 11 chapters. The first part of the book, "Start Up!", will introduce the reader to the world of Delphi - all the main topics that you'll need to get working right now.

"Take that!", the second part, deals with the Object Pascal - the programming language on which Delphi is based. You'll learn about basic language components with enough examples to quickly grasp the knowledge. It then moves to the chapter intended to procide a small (but powerfull enough) overview of the most important classes in Delphi. After this introduction, Frank moves to a rather small chapter "Basic elements of an application", explaining the idea behind Delphi Form objects.

The third part of the book, "Go Ahead!", in the opening chapter, brings more complicated Delphi objects/classes to the reader, like TStringList and TRegistry, working with DLLs, threading and DDE are also discussed. Chapter 8 explores the basics of Delphi database development, including master-detail relationship programming. Delphi and the Internet, featured in chapter 9, shows the reader how to build its own browser using the TWebBrowser component. Even though the book is intended to beginners, chapter 11, "Developing components", contains a description of some basic elements of custom component development process. Finally, the last chapter, explains how to use Delphi more eficiently and intercept errors in your own programs.

All in all, practical tips and tricks throughout this book will helpyou find out how to put important concepts into practice and get expert tips on how to improve your programming. Thanks to the many examples in the practical section, you will quickly be able to understand how things are done and how the different elements of Delphi work together, before putting them into practice yourself.

Make no mistake, the book is for beginner (Delphi) developers - it fits quite well in the Top Delphi Beginner Programming Books selection.
