MAILING LISTS eGROUPS DISCUSSIONS
Dateline: 02/16/99This article will focus on mailing lists dedicated to Delphi, a great way to be a part of some specific or general discussion about Delphi Programming.
What is that?
A mailing list is a list of people who subscribe (free) to a periodic mailing distribution on a particular topic. On the Internet, mailing lists include each person's e-mail address rather than a postal address. Mailing lists have become a popular way for Internet users to keep up with topics they're interested in.
How to subscribe and what to do (in general)
There are many mailing lists that you can subscribe to (not only with topics about Delphi).
Users can subscribe to a mailing list by sending an e-mail note to a mailing list they learn about; listserver (small program that automatically redistributes e-mail to names on a mailing list) will automatically add the name and distribute future e-mail postings to every subscriber.
Each list can be moderated or not moderated. In moderated list your post is first reviewed by a member of the mailing list management team for appropriateness and then forwarded to the list itself. In non-moderated lists, you can write (post) about anything you want nobody will stop you spaming others people mail.
If you want to start your own mailing list, the easiest way is to take advantage of eGroups. eGroups offers both archiving and hosting of lists, free of charge.
