If I'm to write a book for beginner developers Mitchell (the author) would have probably enough reasons to sue me! What a great book.
Programming and Problem Solving with Delphi is for those who are learning to program with Delphi - powerful OOP visual programming environment. This book teaches beginners how to program using Delphi. It assumes no prior programming experience. This book teaches sound programming and problem-solving concepts.
The book is extremely well laid out, very descriptive, and informative. You might find Programming and Problem Solving with Delphi consie in comparison to other books on the market, it provides a complete introduction to programming fundamentals and demonstrates sound programming practices. More advanced, package specific features of Delphi are introduced after fundamentas have been presented and mastered. The book is aimed at both students and teachers. It includes chapters and appendices covering the evolution of computer programming languages, computer arithmetic and number systems, OOP, advanced Delphi programming and databases. It also covers Windows-based programming concepts, such as OLE, DDE and ActiveX.
The *text* of the book offers numerous featues and aid instructions to enhance student learning: chapter objectives, definition boxes, code callouts, GUI design tips, real world examples, case studies, etc. What more, each chapter ends with chapter summary, review questions, chapter problems and programming projects to test students mastery of the presented material.
Like almost every book on Delphi, Programming and Problem Solving with Delphi comes with a CD. On the CD you'll find Delphi 5 standard and all code examples from the book.
This is a beginners book, make no mistake. If you're just learning Delphi, it's a great pick. In all, this book is a great value and an excellent read (but a little to pricey), for a novice Delphi developer as well as for those who still believe Pascal is a difficult language. It very well fits in the "Top Books For Delphi Beginners"
