description
Determines if the pointer or procedure referenced is not nil (assigned).

P is a procedural type or a pointer variable reference. The function returns True if P is NOT nil, False otherwise;

  ShowMessage('Form1 HAS menu attached');

//another one
if Assigned(DataSource1.DataSet) then
  ShowMessage('DataSource1 has its DataSet');
