Year planner (PIM) in a Delphi application

In the process of writing a diary/planner (PIM) type application, I came across the need for a year planner. You know the kind of thing, much like a full year calendar showing ALL the days for ALL the months of a given year. I actually looked around on the internet for a suitable component, found quite a few, some where quite expensive, some where cheap, and some where free.

But none of them did what I wanted from such a component:

  • must be uncluttered (nor too much of the "fancy" coloring and "doodaps"),
  • must be simple to use,
  • must cater for any (reasonable) year,
  • Must be able to show multiple tasks/events concurrently,
  • Must be able to span events over multiple months.
I decided to code my own.

Here’s a screen shot of what was hoped to be achieved...
